What makes it special
MADSTYLED isn’t your only choice. There are big wardrobe apps and other small ones, and you’ll choose what fits you best. Here’s what I believe makes MADSTYLED special.
A real stylist, not a shuffle
Every look is put together on purpose. The stylist reads each piece (color, fabric, fit, warmth) along with your weather, the occasion, the colors and pieces you’d never wear, and what you’ve loved before. Then it tells you why the look works. Even the free Quick pick follows style rules, never a random mix.
It never tells you to buy
MADSTYLED styles the clothes you already own. It never suggests something you’d need to buy, and there are no brands, affiliate links or shopping feeds.
No subscription
One purchase of $39. You pay for the AI you actually use, directly to Anthropic through your own account, usually about 5 to 12 cents for three looks, depending on the size of your closet.
No ads, and we don’t sell your data
No ads anywhere. MADSTYLED never sells, rents or shares anything about you, and never stores your closet. What reaches Anthropic for styling, the National Weather Service for forecasts, and Gumroad (our checkout) for your license is handled under their own privacy policies, linked under “Privacy, in full” below.

It doesn’t assume your gender, your body or your style. You tell it who you are and what you’d never wear, and it listens.
Your privacy, plainly
Your closet, your photos and your AI key never come to us. They stay on your phone and go only to Anthropic when you use an AI feature, or to anyone you choose to share pieces with. The only information we have about you is what you give us when you buy (your name, email and order) or when you email us. Your closet lives only on your phone, so we never have it. Keep a backup.

MADSTYLED uses your own Anthropic account. You add credit there, set your own monthly spending limit, and pay only for what you use. There’s no markup and nothing goes through us.
MADSTYLED was built and tested with Claude Sonnet, and we strongly recommend it for the best results. Claude Haiku costs about half as much or less and still works, but it’s more likely to miss the finer points of a look.

These are MADSTYLED’s own estimates from October 2026, using Anthropic’s published prices at that time. They match the app’s own AI Costs list, and the cost of adding a whole closet was measured on a real closet. The Haiku figures are estimates (Trending now costs a little more than half on Haiku, because web searches cost the same on both). Anthropic sets its prices and bills you directly, so your real cost is in your Anthropic account. Most costs go up with the size of your closet, and with Sonnet over Haiku. A new Anthropic account needs credit added before it works. When you make your key, pick one workspace for it (Default is fine): a key that covers several workspaces won’t work with MADSTYLED. Privacy, in fullExactly who sees what, and why.
Anthropic is the company behind the Claude AI that MADSTYLED uses. You’ll have your own account with them, under their own policies. The weather comes from the US National Weather Service (its privacy policy), which receives only a map position, rounded to about half a mile: your town’s, or your phone’s if you tap “Use my location.” The town name itself is looked up on your phone. Google Fonts sees a visit to load the typefaces, and jsDelivr sees a download when the background cut-out tool is first used; neither gets anything about you or your closet. License keys are checked with our checkout company, Gumroad (its privacy policy), sometimes passing through a small license checker on this website that keeps nothing.
Keeping your closet safeYour closet lives only on your phone. How it could be lost, and how to back it up.
There’s no MADSTYLED account and nothing is stored online. That keeps your closet private, and it also means we can’t recover it for you. A backup you save is the only copy. You could lose your closet by:
- Losing, breaking or replacing your phone. Your closet doesn’t move to a new phone on its own.
- Deleting the MADSTYLED icon from your home screen. On an iPhone, that deletes the closet saved with it.
- Clearing your browser’s website data in your phone’s settings.
- Using it in a browser tab instead of the home screen icon, and not opening it for about a week.
- A phone that runs out of space, which can rarely clear stored website data on its own.
The app helps: it warns you about this when you set it up, reminds you to back up, and lists every risk on a Backup & safety page in its menu. A backup takes a few taps. Keep a copy somewhere other than your phone, like iCloud Drive or Google Drive, and back up before you switch phones or delete the icon.

- MADSTYLED uses AI, and AI can be wrong. Every look is checked against dressing rules before you see it, which cuts down poor suggestions but can’t catch every one. Treat its looks as ideas and use your own judgment.
- Secure checkout. We know it’s a lot to ask someone to hand their card details to a name they’ve never heard of. So you won’t have to: payment will be handled by an established checkout company, your card details go to them and never to us, and they take care of sales tax, receipts and refunds.

Does it really create outfits for me, or just shuffle my clothes?
Getting this right was the most important part of building MADSTYLED, and the most tested and debated. Every look goes through three layers:
- Your own preferences. Your style profile, colors you’d never wear, pieces that never go to work, sizes that fit right now, pieces you’ve set aside, and what you’ve liked or turned down before.
- Built-in dressing rules, checked on your phone before you ever see a look. Every occasion has its own list of what belongs and what doesn’t (no sequins for errands, no flip-flops at work). Each look has to match the weather and its warmth. Colors and prints have to work together. A piece gets a rest after you wear it, so your whole closet comes into play.
- An AI stylist (Claude, by Anthropic) that reads each piece’s color, fabric, fit and warmth, puts the look together within those rules, and tells you why it works.
These rules were tested over and over on very different closets (small closets, large closets, plus-size and menswear), and rewritten every time a look missed. Quick pick, the free instant option, uses the same built-in rules without the AI. Nothing is random.
Will it try to sell me clothes?
Never. It styles only what you own. There are no ads, brands or shopping links. If a look you love needs something you don’t have, it says so plainly and doesn’t send you shopping.
Why do I need an Anthropic account?
Anthropic makes Claude, the AI behind the stylist. Using your own account puts you in charge:
- You set the limit. You choose your monthly spending limit, and you can raise or lower it anytime in your Anthropic account.
- No surprise “you’re out of runs.” MADSTYLED doesn’t cap you at so many looks a month or lock features behind an upgrade. As long as you have credit, every feature works as often as you like.
- You pay only for what you use, at Anthropic’s own price, with no markup and no subscription to us.
- Easy setup. It takes about 10 minutes, and the app walks you through it.
The only limit is the one you choose. If you reach your own spending limit or run out of credit, the AI features pause until you add more, while Quick pick and everything that doesn’t use AI keep working.
What will the AI cost me?
The biggest cost comes once, at the start: when you first add your closet, the AI reads and tags each piece. That’s about $1.50 for 100 pieces, about $4.35 for 300 pieces, and about $14.50 for 1,000 pieces.
After that, it depends on how much you play:
- Quick and easy: Quick pick most days (always free), with Curate a couple of times a week. About $1 to $2 a month.
- A look every morning: Curate once a day with the occasional question to the stylist. About $3 to $7 a month, depending on closet size.
- You’re a Marissa: you built the app, or you just can’t stop playing with it. Curating a few times a day, Mirror checks before you leave the house, and long chats with your stylist about what goes with that one jacket. About $10 to $20 a month. No judgment.
Trending now adds about 70 cents to $1.10 a month and can be turned off. These estimates use the recommended model (Claude Sonnet); Claude Haiku costs about half. You set your own monthly limit, so there are no surprises. See the cost table above for each feature.
Where are my photos and closet kept?
Only on your phone. Nothing comes to us. Photos go to Anthropic only when you use an AI feature.
What if I lose or replace my phone?
Your closet is only on your phone, so keep a backup. It takes a few taps. Save it somewhere like iCloud Drive or Google Drive, and restore it on the new phone.
Can I use it on more than one device?
Yes, your license covers up to 5 devices. Each device keeps its own closet, and a backup file moves it from one to another.
Do I have to photograph everything?
No. You can add many photos at once, including screenshots from online stores. Plain basics like tees, tanks and camis can be added with no photo at all.
Who is it for?
Anyone. It doesn’t assume your gender, body or style. You tell it who you are and what you’d never wear.
Do I need to be good with technology?
No. You add it to your home screen like an app, and it walks you through setup step by step.
What if it’s not for me?
You have a 30-day refund, no questions asked. What you spent on AI at Anthropic is between you and Anthropic and isn’t part of the refund.
Where is it available?
In the United States at launch. If there’s interest from other countries, we’d love to expand, so let us know.
Why I made it
Earlier this year I started using AI at work to help me build things. I’m not a developer. Then one weekend a thought slipped in: maybe I could make an app. I laughed. And then, a moment later: wait. Could I?
I’d tried other styling apps, and none of them were what I was looking for. I wanted help wearing the clothes I already had, in a way that fit me. So I built it. When I told my family and friends what I was working on, they asked to try it too, and that’s when I decided it should be built on the values I try to live by: honesty, integrity, transparency and inclusivity.
Maybe it won’t go anywhere. But I loved building it, and I’m going to love sharing it.
